How Lilly Influences What Prescribers Learn About Cymbalta
Is this unethical behavior?
The Wall Street Journal obtained a copy of a Lilly contract with a pharmacy purchasing cooperative (Cymbalta contract). Supposedly “some people in the industry see the contract terms as a troubling lever for drug companies to use.” Although the pharmacoeconomics prof they quoted didn’t come across as particularly troubled. I’m not particularly troubled. Is anyone troubled that a pharma would offer a front-end discount to wholesale price in return for promises that the pharmacy will not to try to dissuade physicians from prescribing the product after putting it on equal footing in the formulary? Just asking.
